Remodel October 2022 – May 2023

To undertake a job of the scale I had for this last project I needed to be specific about what I was looking for in a builder. The project was an early 1900’s villa that was to receive a full reclad, new windows, re-wire, re-plumb, a large extension and remodel for 5 ensuited bedrooms and new kitchen/living area. This would be a 6-9 month project.

Honesty is a key component. This was our 4 th villa project so I have learned that there are a few key characteristics I needed from the builder. Mitch displayed this the first time I contacted him to do work on another project. I needed a deck and fence to be built at another property, the builder on that particular job let me down on this happening as he was too overcommitted to other work. When I spoke to Mitch about doing this work ASAP he did not give me the answer I was wanting. Instead he was honest and explained he was at capacity with his current workload and gave me an estimated lead time of when he would be able to come do the work. This greatly impressed me as over the years I have dealt with a lot of “yes men” that tell me what I want to hear not knowing whether or not they can actually deliver. The fact that he was prepared to lose potential work

showed that he prioritised his current clients, this meant a great deal to me as it gave me confidence that he would extend the same values when on my jobs.

Communication was very natural with Mitch and his team. Prior to starting Mitch and I worked closely to plan, price and itemise the job in great detail as a requirement for the bank. Throughout the project Mitch & I would also have regular meetings to discuss what was happening over the next week to ensure all sub-contractors or materials were organised ahead of time. There was no issues with any of the subcontractors, everyone communicated well and worked in together better than I have had on any other project. There are always a few curve balls thrown at you in this type or work so having a team that were able to adapt and communicate meant these issues were dealt with in a timely manner so we could move forward.

The standard of work was kept will within my expectations and the site was kept safe and tidy, curtesy of the surrounding residents was never discussed but the team observed this and was vigilant and aware not to disrupt the surrounding neighbours as little as possible. I personally worked alongside Mitch’s team throughout this project and they were great to deal with and were well equipped with the required gear and know how, their young energy and experience complement their passion for their trade well. I appreciate how Chip Construction has taken on an apprentice, it shows integrity and foresight to invest back into the future of our young builders.

Overall Chip Construction has been great to deal with and we have achieved a great result that we are all proud of. The two main characteristics of honesty and communication were what I was searching for and lead us to a successful outcome. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Chip Construction to anyone looking for a builder to take on a residential project of any size.

Chip Construction has completed two jobs for us in our house over the past three years. The first was a challenging one involving the removal of several windows and a section of wall to install french doors and build a deck. Mitch was able to help our vision become a reality with his ability to understand our vision and his attention to detail. This was no small task and the result has changed the whole flow of our house in the best way! The second job was installing a custom style cabinet. The team were able to not only help with the design and installation but also find a great joiner to make the vision come to life.
